"We went all the way down to the bottom, down some rickety stairs, many of them missing!"
Well done you two. Wish I could have bought the quarry!
I remember a school trip from Cummings Park Primary to the quarry when I was 8 or 9. We went all the way down to the bottom, down some rickety stairs, many of them missing and a nervous teacher telling us to be careful - Northfield kids be careful? Ha Ha.
I will never forget being right at the bottom, looking up and thinking it was miles to the top. The place had a funny smell, like gunpowder is how I remember it, but the place was so shiny! I remember thinking the walls looked like glass and there were some old men working at the bottom. One said they lived down there and for years and later I used to think that people lived in the quarry and feared for them when it rained and the quarry filled up with water!
