The Granite Festival

Rubislaw Quarry talk at The Cowdray Hall

As part of the week long 2012 Granite Festival, a talk on Rubislaw Quarry was held at The Cowdray Hall in May.

Jenny Brown, Curator for Industry, at Aberdeen Art Galleries and Museums, opened the talk about the history of Rubislaw Quarry from the early 1700's up to April 2010.

Following Jenny's talk, the new owners of Rubislaw Quarry, Hugh Black & Sandy Whyte, were given a chance to tell the sell-out audience, "Why they bought it!".

After Hugh's short talk, the owners played a 10 minute video showing what they have been up to at the quarry, which was largely based on a survey they had carried out in March. The results provided some amazing images of the quarry, never seen before and the presentation finished with the first public showing of their vision to build a visitor centre to celebrate Aberdeen's granite heritage.

The talk was one of the successes of the 2012 Granite Festival. So much so, that a talk on Rubislaw Quarry will open the 2013 Granite Festival at The Cowdray Hall on Saturday 20th July. So, put this date in your diary as tickets for this event will sell out fast!
